The provisions of Assembly Bill 52, which became effective on October 1, 2005, have amended the process for issuing a driver's license to persons under age 18.

The Department of Motor Vehicles may issue a driver's license to persons 16 or 17 years of age once they meet the following requirements and pass the Department's testing requirements:

  • Complete a course in automobile driver education pursuant to Nevada Revised Statute 389.090;
  • or complete a course provided by a school for training drivers which is licensed pursuant to Nevada DMV Revised Statute 483.700 to 483.780.
  • Have at least 50 hours of supervised experience in driving a motor vehicle with an instruction permit including at least 10 hours of experience in driving a motor vehicle during darkness.

Teens - 15 1/2 to under 18 years of age will need:

  • A) Written test (called Learner's Permit) to be taken at the DMV,
  • B) 30-Hour Driver's Ed. We offer it, online at lasvegasnvdriversed.com
  • C) Total of 50-hrs driving -- 40-hrs of driving during the day and 10-hrs of night driving. You'll need to record your hours in a DMV specific log (called Beginning Driver Training Guide).
  • D) Wait 6 months after receiving your permit in order to apply for your driver's license.
You can drive as long as you have your Learners Permit AND you are driving with someone in the car that is at least 21 years of age and has had his/her license for at least a year.

Why do you need driving lessons with a professional?

  • logo.teens0.25Parents who teach learner drivers pass on their own bad habits and they are not always aware of the new rules. Nearly eight out of ten driving instructors say youngsters taught by their parents can prove a menace on the road because of the mistakes they copy.
  • Teaching teenagers can be a frustrating and thankless task for parents as they struggle to prepare their children for a test that bears little resemblance to the one that they took two or three decades ago.
  • An overwhelming majority of instructors say parents should undergo a mandatory 'refresher' course before taking children out in their car.
  • These include failure to check the mirrors, crossing hands while steering, speeding, 'tailgating' or driving too close to the car in front, and answering a mobile phone while driving.
  • Any classes taken with a driving school can count towards the mandatory 50-hours of driving.
We teach defensive and safe driving. Driving Lessons for Dummies.
  • A professional instructor will teach you every aspect of safety and defensive driving and make sure you are ready to pass your test the first time.Do not attempt to borrow your dad's brand new Porsche Turbo without supervision!

garage doorPeter Cheney lived every automotive journalist's worst nightmare when his son accidentally launched a brand new $180,000 Porsche 911 Turbo through his garage door.

" It's what you get for not having your kid taking driving classes..." Said, Peter.

- My son Will stuck his head into the office and asked me if he could show his buddy the Turbo. I told him to go ahead. He and his friends always checked out my cars. Their main focus seemed to be the interior and stereo system – details I barely cared about.
-" I shut down my computer and prepared to head to the office, smiling at the thought of a few minutes in the Turbo. As I headed out the back door, I saw my son running toward the house. His eyes were the size of dinner plates. He sputtered: “Dad, the Porsche … the Porsche …” ”
-" I walked past him into the garage. For nearly a minute, I was too dumbfounded to speak. The Turbo hadn’t rolled into the door – it had launched itself through the entire structure. In a distance of approximately four feet, the Turbo had developed enough kinetic energy to blow the entire security door apart. Parts of the roller mechanism were scattered through the alley. Dazed, I picked up a bent metal piece – it looked like a Crazy Bone, a toy Will had collected as a little boy. It seems
a giant blacksmith had smacked my beloved Porsche with a sled-hammer...
